Maite Hernández Mateo is a Spanish freelance photojournalist born in Pamplona, and currently based in New York. She graduated from the The International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York in 2010. In October 2017 was awarded with the TEOBALDO award of jounalism in Spain.
She was awarded the John & Anna Maria Phillips Foundation Scholarship for Photojournalist. Prior to ICP she studied fine arts at Bilbao University in Spain.Her personal photographic work focuses on human rights issues, specifically immigration, indigenous people and women’s issues. Maite has worked in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, India, Nepal, New York and Spain. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Telemundo among others. Maite is part of Agencia ZUR (Argentina).
